Happy Last Wednesday!

Hello friends of learning! Happy last day of Grade 6!

We had a fun, busy morning to cap off our year together.

Today's events included: our last school-wide assembly, our last-day-of-school pictures, a Super 6-3 Kahoot Quiz (with 52 questions!!), Mme Careen reading us her favourite last-day-of-school story, and us receiving an "exce-plante" gift and sweet treat.

Some of this morning's events are captured here below. (Please also keep an eye out on your email inbox for something coming your way later today.)

(Click HERE for the slo-mo video of this picture being taken!)

Merci to everyone for a great year!

*****

A note from Mme Careen:

Now that our time of learning together is done, and as I begin to clean up our learning space and prepare to leave things for the summer, I am flooded with the year's memories of how much learning and growing we did together as a team. Through ups and downs, we set goals, celebrated successes, worked hard, had fun, learned and shared some hard lessons, collaborated with our peers, set new standards for ourselves, set out on field trip adventures and truly grew into our roles as "les chevaliers." I have no doubt that as you continue to grow as learners, and as people, you will achieve many wonderful things. It has been an honour and a pleasure being your teacher. My door will always be open to you for a "Bonjour" and a "high elbow" celebration.

À la prochaine, mes amis.

💚, Mme Careen

The Hockey Sweater!

Hello!

We had a great time at Rainbow Stage today!

The Hockey Sweater had it all! A singing hockey team all wearing the number 9, roller blades, the wrong sweater, dancing gospel-singing moths, a very dramatic teacher, a broken hockey stick, and more!

Please ask me about the show: What was my favourite song? Character? Part?

Thank for a fun day, everyone!

Another round of airplanes!

Happy (last) Monday!

Today we tested our paper-airplane-folding skills by either folding the "World Record Holder" plane, or creating our own design.

We tested our airplanes in the gym at the end of the morning. (See one of our launches HERE!)

Please ask me how my airplane(s) flew!

*****

AGENDA

**Reminder: Our field trip to Rainbow Stage is tomorrow! We will be leaving school at 9:45, and will be back at school for most of period 7 and period 8. Please ensure to have a bag lunch and a bottle of water. Phones will be left at school since they are not permitted in the theatre. As per theatre guidelines, masks are optional, but recommended.**

1. Lecture with Je Lis or https://jeunesse.short-edition.com/

2. Locker clean-out was this morning!

Students did their final locker clean-out this morning and will bringing home all extra, no-longer-needed supplies home with them at the end of the day. Locks were also collected. Students can continue to use their lockers (without locks) or can bring their bags with them into class for the remaining 2 day of school.

(They will need minimal supplies at this point; keeping their pencil case in their backpack would be encouraged.)

Friday Airplanes!

Hello friends of learning! Happy (last) Friday!

Today in Science we tested our paper airplanes in the gym to see how well they could fly!

We were fortunate to have Mme Scham's Science students help us with the measurements so that we could focus on the flying part!

In class on Monday we will compare our data with our airplane groups and then use this information to form our conclusions to see which airplane flew the furthest and had the longest flight time.

Thanks for a fun morning, everyone! :)

Thursday!

Hello! Happy Thursday!

Today in Science we collaborated in small groups to write our hypotheses about which airplane will fly the furthest and which will have the longest hang time.

We will be testing our hypotheses tomorrow morning as we head to the gym to fly our airplanes!

Please ask me about my predictions. Which airplane (The Dart, The Interceptor, The Square Plane, The Eagle or The Hornet) will fly the furthest and why? Which one will have the longest hang time?

Manitoba Museum and Winnipeg General Strike Tour!

We had a great day on our field trip today!

We learned about the strikes leading up to the strike, about the special police and saw the alley where "Bloody Saturday" took place. We learned about constellations and the history of dinosaurs, and explored the Nonsuch and the 1920s village.

We also experienced the kindness of strangers and learned that "dress for the weather" means more than just crossing our fingers and hoping the rain will pass!  ⛈ ☔

Despite getting caught in a downpour and spending the majority of our day with soggy, squishy feet, our spirits were high as we had fun spending some of our last days of Grade 6 together with our friends and classmates.

Friday Morning Airplanes!

Hello! Happy Friday!

This morning in Science we started a fun paper airplane project!

We had the choice between 5 different airplane designs and worked together in groups to follow the directions and get them folded up and ready to fly!

Our next step was the take some airplane measurements: the mass, the length and the wingspan.

Each group member took the measurements of their own plane and then a group average was calculated. We will compare the data of the planes next week and use this information to make predictions about what plane will fly the furthest and have the longest hang time. And then, the flight tests will begin!

Stay tuned to see our airplanes in flight!

Have a great weekend! :)

Les aéronefs and Weekend Agenda Items

Hello! Happy Thursday!

Today in Science we were tasked with designing and building a simple aircraft.

Using a plastic straw as the main fuselage, we added and modified different wing-types using different types of paper to see which design would fly best.

After each design and test, we wrote down our observations and noted what modifications we planned on making to our aéronef before the next test.

We will finish up our final tests and conclusions on Monday. Please ask me about my aéronef designs  and what I found flew best so far!

Wishing you all a lovely weekend! :)

Happy Tuesday!

Hello friends!

We were small but mighty in number today as 9 of our classmates were off representing our school at the divisional track meet! From what we've heard so far, École Ness is making a great showing! We can't wait to congratulate and celebrate everyone's successes when we're all back together!

We started our day in randomized groups at the white board drawing different ratios of animals, shoes, cats and dogs. Who knew that Math could be so artistic?!

We then took some Français-music-listening time before working on another Math task: rapport motifs using online pattern blocks! Using an online site, we were tasked with created a motif using at least 20 blocks or four different varieties. Once our motif was designed, we wrote 6 different ratios that could be found within our motif masterpieces.

Stay tuned to the blog to see the finished products posted! :)

Music Monday!

Hello! Happy Monday!

Today in Français we started a musical task - exploring francophone music! Using the site Ohdio we had the chance to listen to different, new-to-us genres and find some catchy, calming, upbeat, powerful, silly tunes!

Please ask me about what genres I chose to explore. What artists did I discover? Do I possibly have a new favourite song?

Music genres and an upcoming science assessment

Hello! Happy Wednesday!

Today in Français we shared our favourite music genre in groups of three. We needed to provide a specific example of why and include at least 2 adjectives in our answer.

Next up, is choosing our least favourite music genre and explaining why. This will be a written task that we'll work on over the coming couple of classes. Please ask me: what music genre did I choose to write about? Why did I choose it? What adjectives am I thinking of using to explain why I dislike it?
