Friday!

Hello, friends of learning! Happy Friday!

We started our morning with our monthly assembly and a fun Name That Tune activity. Our class scored well - 27/40! Bravo!

Next up, in Math we had the choice of two brain-scratching activities (see below).
Ask me about which ones I tried and how it went!

We ended our morning doing a film reflection for "Les Pee Wee." Please ask me about: my favourite character, my favourite scene from the film and some of the similarities between the movie and the Zamboni novel we recently finished studying.

Wishing you all a fun, restful, happy, wonderful spring break! :)

AGENDA

1. Possibly coming home: Some students may be bringing home their supply boxes to clean and organize over the break. Starting in April, students will be storing their bins in their lockers at the end of each day, so having them organized and not overflowing will help them transport them daily.

2. Lecture en français with Je Lis!

En pyramide!

Happy Thursday!

Today in Math we challenged our brains with an "En pyramide" activity.

Please ask me to explain how to play and how I did solving the puzzles!

Electric Wednesday!

Hello, friends of learning! Happy Wednesday!

Today we were fortunate to welcome Mme Victoria from WISE who ran an electric circuits lesson for us during periods 1+2. After a quick introduction to electricity, positive and negative charges and electrical circuits, we were ready to get started!

Working with our table partners, we each received a snap circuit kit and had a chance to build as many different circuits as we could!

We lit up lightbulbs, turned a fan off and on, played a song, made an alarm and more!

See the whole class in action building with their snap circuit boards HERE!

The second part of our lesson with Mme Victoria was to make our own circuits using a battery, a rubber band, two safety pins, a thin copper wire and a magnet. The goal was to position the magnet to make the copper wire spin.

See our battery circuits HERE, HERE and HERE!

What a fun way to celebrate the mid-week of our last week before spring break!

Bravo!

AGENDA

1. Please ask me about our WISE presentation. What circuit was my favourite? Which one was the trickiest to build? Was I successful in getting my copper wire to spin on my battery circuit?

Party-planning and movie-watching Tuesday!

Hello! Happy Tuesday!

Today in Math we worked in randomized groups of three to plan a party!

Here's the (translated) question:

You are planning a party for your class. There are 23 students in the class and you have a budget of $70 to spend on pizza, chips and drinks. Mme Careen will provide the plates, napkins and cups.

* A 2L bottle of pop costs $1,79.
*A big bag of chips costs $3.45.
* A large pizza (10 slices) costs $8.50.

How will you spend the money? There is more than one way to spend it. Make sure you choose the option that you think is best. You must explain and defend why your solution is the best.

After having time to discuss and plan, each group had a chance to present their suggestion to the class. We all worked well in our groups and did well presenting our solutions. Bravo!

Today in Science, we began watching the film, "Les pee-wee: l'hiver qui a changé ma vie." We will be watching this movie over the next couple of days, and will be discussing the similarities we see between this story and the Zamboni storyline.

To celebrate movie watching, Mme Careen found the perfect movie snack: Hockey pucks! Yum!

Watching the movie as a class was a great way to end our morning together!

Résumé Wednesday!

Hello friends of learning!

Today in Français we began writing our résumés for our Zamboni novel study.

Using a model text from the "Chandail de Hockey" story we studied back in January and a graphic organizer, we broke down the résumé into small chunks and identified key parts and words that helped retell the story in a simple and direct way.

We were then able to discuss the story in small groups before sitting down and writing our résumé independently.

We will have a chance again tomorrow to review and complete our résumés before Mme reads and assesses them.

Strike a Pose!

Bonjour! Hello!

Today we were lucky to have Mme Champagne stop by and introduce us to a fun new game: Récréer la pose! One classmate (the 'model') stands in front of the screen so they cannot see the pose posted behind them. Then, the rest of the class gives specific directions (in French) to try to explain how the 'model' has to move their body to recreate the pose. This fun game will help us practice our french vocabulary and learn how to give directions in a specific way. Amazing!

Check out our first two models! How did we do with our instructions?
