Four Fours!

Today in Math we worked in randomized groups to complete the "Fantastic Fours" challenge. 

Task: Using four fours and any of the four operations in any order (brackets are allowed, too!), write an equation that equals each number from 0 - 16.

Please ask me about my group and our approach! Which number was the easiest to solve for? Which one was the trickiest? Why are brackets (les paranthèses) so important in an equation?

Subtraction with decimal numbers, PEDMAS puzzles and a Science review activity!

Can you solve the equation 9,3 - 4,8? How many ways can you show your work?

We are currently practicing four different mental math strategies to show our thinking.

Using these four strategies, try solving the following equations (WITHOUT using the traditional algorithm): 7,1 - 5,9  and  8,4 - 3,6.

In Math, we are also continuing our work with the priority of operations.

Today in class we practiced our calculations using popsicle stick puzzles! Fun!

The next time we need to answer a skill-testing question to win a prize, we will be ready! :)

In Science, we spent some time working in groups to review important vocabulary for our upcoming assessment. Through discussion and collaboration, we grouped terms together based on communalities. Ex: Animal, giraffe, complexe, peut se déplacer, vertébré could all be placed together.

Please ask me about the words I sorted. What could I put together easliy? What words/concepts do I need to review in order to be ready for the assessment on Tuesday?

La priorité des opérations!

These same questions sure had us thinking first thing this morning! 

To help us all arrive at the same answer, we've added a new skill to our Math arsenal: 

"la priorité des opérations" (aka PEDMAS!)

The acronym PEDMAS helps us remember the order of operations 

when we are evaluating a Math expression or equation.

We will continue practicing how to solve a variety of equations this week. Please ask me about 'la priorité des opérations'! What do I already understand? What questions do I still have?

Moving Monday + Agenda Items

Happy Monday!

Today was an exciting day! We moved classes for ELA for the first time!

Starting today, and from now on, we will be traveling to Mme Chernick's class for ELA and ScHum! We are excited to add more movement in our day and to learn in a new-to-us space! Please ask us all about it! :)
